Black & White

When you view a photo displayed solely in black and white, you aren’t just looking at the image, you’re looking into the image. Is the person whispering secrets into your ear? Are the objects making you question their purpose? Does the image trigger personal memories? Colouring in a photograph, whether vibrant or soft, is most often beautiful, but when you look at something in black and white, there’s something different… you see past colour, feel emotion and walk into a story.












The image above is of possibly the last remaining Webb Patent Sewer Gas Lamp in London (by the Savoy Hotel near Trafalgar Square). Lamps such as this were invented in the late 19th century, primarily as a means to burn off smells from the sewers running underground, and are lit day and night.
